The latest 10th anniversary edition of Ostroda Reggae Festival just proved that it is the largest Polish event in the Polish reggae calendar. Long list of the last year’s headliners and new talents, as well as great atmosphere, raised it to the next level, which we want beat again.
More than 400 artists, including around 140 from outside Poland, have performed on its stages over the past 10 years and the shows have been attended by over 10 000 people each year. All the major Polish reggae artists have performed at Ostroda festival. This year you should expect a real Jamaican takeover of Ostroda! First of all, first time in Poland we will see great producer and the same singer – STEPHEN MARLEY, promoting his new album. One of the main Jamaican stars in recent years – MR VEGAS with his band THUGZ BAND will also perform. Murderous riddims will be provided by the most legendary rhythm section in the world - SLY & ROBBIE coming with JUNIOR REID. Vocal talents from the cradle of reggae: PERFECT GIDDIMANI, PROTOJE, LUTAN FAYAH and BURRO BANTON will make the audience hot in the special showcase backed by DUB AKOM BAND. KATCHAFIRE, great example of how reggae is strong in New Zealand, will present their arms in Ostroda. Main Polish reggae band, legendary IZRAEL, will play a special dub show mixed by MAD PROFESSOR after they’ve done an album together. Already announced other Polish artists include VAVAMUFFIN, BAKSHISH, TABU, ETNA KONTRABANDE, DUBSKA, DUBERMAN or PARALIŻ BAND. A real sensation of recent months in Poland - STAR GUARD MUFFIN will also be there. As always, the largest Polish sound system scene will pump basslines to the dancers everyday. The audience will vote for the winner out of 5 best bands selected by the festival jury. A core part of the festival program is the Reggae University – it involves meetings, workshops and seminars with various ‘roots culture authorities’. This year one of our teachers will be MAD PROFESSOR, who will also play his set on green (sound system) The whole arena vibrates with dozens of stalls selling various items related to reggae culture and is a place for a rich international exchange of goods and ideas. Professional camp site will be a nice place to stay and rest after the shows. Continuously from 2005 the festival has been winning the category “main reggae event” in the annual votes of Free Colours readers (the main Polish reggae magazine). Not without a reason! CAMP SITE
The official festival camp site ‘Toi Camp’ will be professionally prepared to provide you maximum comfort of stay and security. The site is managed by our subcontractor ToiToi Polska: (http://toicamp.pl/) – the specialists providing such services to major Polish events. Toi Camp is located at the Sajmino (Kajkowo) lake in Ostroda and it provides:
• A fenced and lit area • Security 24 hours a day • Professional service from Toi Camp employees, who provide assistance and are happy to answer any questions • An armband system for identifying Toi Camp campers • The highest quality bathroom facilities providing showers and basins with hot water • Toilet containers • Facilities for the disabled and persons with young children • Designated and marked sites for a tent, campervan or caravan • The possibility of connecting electrical equipment to a power outlet • Safe storage of valuable personal items • Medical care area
The camp site is separately charged. It will open for the festival audience on 10th August (Wednesday), 12.00 and will close on 15th August (Monday), 12.00 Entry fee will be charged at the entrance to the site. There is also an opportunity to make a reservation through Toi Camp website: http://toicamp.pl/rezerwacje.php?event=41 These of you who are planning to come for shorter stay are recommended to use some alternative camp sites in Ostroda, as you have no possibility to book single days at Toi Camp.
All festival places are quite close to each other, so you don’t really need to use any transport to travel between the festival site, the camp site, Reggae University and the lakes. Ostroda is rather small but live town due to its touristic character and good vibes are everywhere. Be ready to swim as you will see beautiful lakes even in direct centre of the town.
Ostróda, a town of 35000, is the fourth town in the province of warmińsko-mazurskie in the number of its inhabitants, situated in the western part of Polish Great Lake and Forest District - Mazury. There are 15 lakes in the direct neighbourhood of the town, including 5 within the borders of the town itself. Here lies the central port of the three water channels. In summer, Ostróda holds an impressive number of entertaining events of various kinds both recreational and cultural. There are many historic buildings in the town, hotels, water and sport equipment rentals, and also bars and restaurants, which sums up to a conclusion that Ostróda fits ideally to a perfect summer holiday destination. Among of numerous attractions of these beautiful and picturesque areas, an important place is held by the complex system of sailing water channels – The Ostróda-Elbląg Channel. The channel itself, in its technical design, is an extremely interesting and unique in the whole world water sailing channel. To those tourists who enjoy walking and hiking, there are two routs to choose from of the joint length of 25km. For the canoe lovers there are five beautifully situated channel routes. True paradise for the bikers would make the numerous hills and woodland paths. Ostróda, also called „The Pearl of Mazury”, is constantly growing in tourist attractions made by human hand. The newly redecorated Teutonic Castle is a must-visit place. The modernised boulevard at the Drwęckie Lake with breathtaking sunsets, with the pier is a favourite strolling place for most Ostróda inhabitants and holiday makers. The new passage with little shops and flats stylised for 19th century tenement houses. Do you know that: Ostróda was granted within the last years the following titles: Summer Capital of Warmia and Mazury (three times), Favourite Holiday Resort (twice) and The Most Beautiful Town in the Race of Tour de Pologne (twice).
